Top 4 Short Game Tips From Quality Golf Destinations

Become a short game master...

If you're looking to improve your short game in golf, check out the four ideas below to help you get there. Following the advice of a few local pros in we know, here are our top four short game suggestions to help you cut strokes off your round!

1. Soften Your Hands for Chip Shots

Prepare your hands for chip shots by softening them. Your grip is frequently said to be the key to everything. Most inexperienced golfers make the mistake of gripping the club too tightly. Of course, you don't want your grip to be so loose that the club slips from your grasp, but on a scale of 1 to 10, you should strive for a softness level of around 4-5.

This will relieve strain in your arms and wrists, allowing you to focus on the chip. Maintaining a high chin and a straight back can also help.

2. Find the Right Tempo

What kind of speed do you require? Another common blunder made by amateurs on the green is approaching the ball too quickly.

You'll need that speed and power off the tee, of course. It's a different thing when you're near the greens. Your short game necessitates a gentler touch, and keeping things simple can sometimes provide the finest results.

We want to achieve a slow acceleration through the ball. How are you going to do that? Take a deep breath, relax your grasp, and soften your hands. In the top of your backswing, count off "one and," then "two" in the downswing. Relax, don't rush it, and you'll see a difference in no time, particularly in your ball hitting.

3. Take a bite out of it!

When it comes to distance control, those extremely short chips and pitches might be difficult to master. Here's a great chance to apply physics: shorten the lever, and less power is delivered. Your golf ball will go farther if you grip the club at a lower angle. That's all there is to it!

4. Putt, Chip, Pitch

Limiting your risk by picking the least risky shot whenever possible is one of the simplest ways to enhance your score and short game. And if you've spent any time with me, you'll realize why this is so important.

Your priority order for short game:

1. Putt whenever you can.

2. Chip when you can’t putt.

3. Pitch only when you have to.

In conclusion, strengthening your short game will be the easiest approach to reduce your scorecard statistics. While getting to the green is crucial, it doesn't mean much if you can't put the ball in the hole.
