Malta has a typical Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot summers, hotter in the inland areas but always cooled by sea breezes. With mainly dry spring and summers, (rain occurs mainly in autumn and winter), Malta has long been a favourite holiday destination for many years. The average annual day temperatures in the mid 20 to 25°C during the day and mid-teens at night makes this the idea holiday retreat, (indeed more than 2 million tourists visited in 2019). With average sea temperature never colder than 15–16 °C in February to a positively balmy 25°C plus in summer there’s no excuse for not dipping your toes in the Mediterranean Sea!!

The Malta archipelago is almost in the centre of the Mediterranean Sea and has been an important stop off for trade ships since the opening of the Suez Canal. The main island is Malta home to the capital Valetta. Only 3 of the islands are occupied, Malta, Gozo and Commino.

Malta was a British colony from 1800 until 1964. Malta finally became a republic in 1974. The British connection has meant Malta has always been a popular destination for its citizens. Although only small Malta has three UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum, Valletta and seven megalithic temples which are some of the oldest free-standing structures in the world. Malta is the perfect destination for sun seekers with its great array of hotels and huge variety of international cuisines.
