Playing Golf in Hot Weather | Tips to Beat the Summer Heat

Survive the summer heat on the golf course

The summer months can be the best time to play golf, but they can also be the worst. The weather is hot, and it's easy to get overheated and dehydrated if you don't take precautions. This article provides some tips for beating the heat on the golf course. Let’s see below.

1. Stay hydrated before hitting the course

To start off with, make sure you're hydrated before hitting the course. Staying properly hydrated helps prevent cramps, headaches and dizziness—all of which can be common issues for golfers in warm weather.

Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water before, during, and after your round. Make sure to carry extra bottles with you on the course. Even if you're not thirsty, drinking water will keep your body stay cool. You should drink about half as much liquid as you lose through sweating but make sure you don't overdo it so that you don't get sick from drinking too much.

2. Wear light-coloured clothing

You can play golf in any kind of weather. You just have to know how to dress for it. Wearing light-coloured and breathable clothing can reflect sunlight away from your body and keep you cooler than dark-coloured garments would be able to do by absorbing radiation instead of reflecting it off of your skin cells.

When you are on the course, be sure to wear light-coloured clothing that covers as much skin as possible (including arms and legs) so that sunlight doesn't heat up your body too quickly. If it's really hot outside, consider wearing long sleeves even if it might be a little bit uncomfortable for you, personally, this will help keep your head cool as well as protect you from sunburns.

3. Wear sunscreen

Sunburns aren't just uncomfortable—they can also lead to heatstroke if left untreated. Make sure that any exposed areas have been covered with sunscreen before heading out.

4. Don’t forget about towels

Bring extra towels so that you can wipe away sweat whenever necessary without having to interrupt play too much. This will also help keep your body cool by preventing evaporation from causing the skin underneath to get hotter than usual or even.

5. Take breaks

Take frequent breaks from playing to rest under an umbrella so you stay cool and hydrated throughout your game. It's also important to take advantage of shade whenever possible. This will help keep your body temperature down and allow for better performance on the course. Moreover, you can choose to play early or late in the day, when there's less sun beating down on your head and shoulders.

Key takeaway

Playing golf in hot weather can be challenging mentally and physically. Remember that you can always take a break from playing if you're feeling too hot. Take a few moments to enjoy the view and then get back at it.
