PGA Catalunya Resort

PGA Catalunya is situated 45 minutes north of the wonderful city Barcelona and a few km from Girona airport. Girona’s Old Town is full of history and worth a visit.

There are two 18-hole courses, the Stadium Course (Campo Verde) is a par 72 over 6,600 meters (approx. 7,200 yards) off the back tees and the Tour Course (Campo Rodo) is a par 72 over 6,000 meters (approx. 6,600 yards).

The Stadium course was almost 10 years in planning and design by the European Tour. They wanted to build their own Players Championship course to rival the PGA Tours Sawgrass course. Within months of opening, it hosted the 1999 Gene Sarazen World Open and the Spanish Open in 2000. The course again hosted the Spanish Open in 2009 (won by Thomas Levet) and 2014 when Miguel Angel Jimenez extended his own record as the oldest winner in European Tour history winning a three-man play-off.

The Stadium Course is a beautiful course and a very difficult one, (you only have to look how many tour pros finish under par in tournaments!!). It is a long course suitable for big hitters, however if you cannot combine big hitting with accuracy you will be in trouble. The course has numerous water hazards and tree lined fairways. When playing the course with its naturally undulating terrain, the fairways can seem quite narrow when you are driving off from the tee, but they will open up for the second shot. The greens are generous in size but are not easy to read.

The Tour course compliments the Stadium course. Whilst not as demanding as the championship course it still worth playing. It is dominated by pine trees and lakes.
