Golf Holidays In England – Formby Golf Club

A true hidden gem in the heart of England’s golf coast, Formby Golf Club is a true championship links course unlike any other. Running through mature sand dunes and pinewoods, the combination of well-protected greens, undulating fairways and challenging tee shots signifies a course of magnificent contrasts.

Formby’s links are set amongst coastal sand dunes and towering pines. The undulating fairways are planted with traditional rye grasses and flat lies are rare. Add strategically placed pot bunkers and frequent changes of wind strength and direction to the mix and the new visitor will quickly discover why Formby is so popular with discerning golfers.

The Links at Formby Golf Club were founded in 1884 and have been sensitively modernised over the years, to ensure it remains a challenging but enjoyable test of golf.

The Red Course is the shortest of Formby Golf Club´s courses. It is home to winter golf, mixed competitions and the annual Hippo Competition.

The Yellow course is Formby´s main course of the day for friendly golf, but it is also used for Club Medals in spring and autumn when the days are shorter.

For over 100 years the White course was the longest and toughest of Formby Golf Club´s courses. It is still used for all of the Club´s traditional major competitions.

The Blue Course was created primarily to host Major Championships, such as the Amateur Championship and the Brabazon Trophy, which last took place at Formby in the summer of 2013. Members describe the championship course as “the Blue Monster”. The current blue course record of 66 is held by Matt Jaeger, achieved during the 2009 Amateur Championship which was eventually won by Matteo Mannesero.
