Designed by Sir Nick Faldo and opened in 2008 has already won many awards including in 2016, the title of Portugal’s Best Golf Course, given by World Golf Awards.
As can be expected of any course designed by Sir Nick, this is both beauty and the beast!! This par 72 championship course at nearly 6600 meters (approx. 7250 yards) off the back tees will demand your full attention and “A game” to score well. Every hole has multi-tees to suit all handicaps but beware a lot of the holes require tee shots to carry waste land.
In a modern twist of a traditional recipe, cacti and wild herbs replace the role of home counties heather, oaks and ancient olive trees take the place of English woodland, and desert scrub bunkers of crushed limestone make for interesting playing options.
This championship course demands careful play off the tees to score well. Designer Nick Faldo said “The real skill is that when you stand on the tee, the golf hole tells you what to do and if you do what it tells you there is reward, but if you don’t you’re penalised. The back nine is quite hilly, which is fantastic because we’ve got some great views to complement the course”.
This is a must play course and will use every club in your bag and every ounce of your concentration.
